Integrating iPads in the English Class

On Friday, February 7, 2014 students in in Mrs. Luz Rodriguez English Class integrated iPads to practice Parts of Speech. First, the students reviewed the 8 Parts of Speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions and interjections, the students used the following iPad apps: Grammar, Grammar Express and Parts of Speech.

Olimpiada de Matemática Nivel Distrito Santa Isabel

El distrito de Santa Isabel (Santa Isabel, Villalba, Coamo y Juana Díaz) llevará a cabo las Olimpiadas de Matemáticas el día 26 de febrero de 2014. 

Para el orgullo nuestro la escuela Dr. Máximo Donoso Sánchez fue seleccionada como sede de tan importante evento. 

Nos visitarán estudiantes de 4to grado a 12mo grado del distrito de Santa Isabel para demostrar sus conocimiento en la materia. 

Nuestra escuela estará representada por un estudiante de cada grado de 7mo a 12mo grado.

Liga Atlética Deportiva de D. R. D.

El viernes 31 de enero se llevó a cabo en la cancha de nuestra escuela la Eliminatoria Municipal de Escuelas Superiores de Juana Díaz en la rama masculina.
Los equipos participantes fueron:
1. Esc. Luis Lloréns Torres
2. Esc. Dr. Máximo Donoso Sánchez
3. Esc. Luis Muñoz Marín

El primer juego lo dominó el equipo de la escuela Dr. Máximo Donoso Sánchez. Obtuvieron una victoria sobre la escuela Luis Muñoz Marín con marcador de 56 puntos a 34 puntos respectivamente.

La final fue entre la escuela Luis Lloréns Torres y la Dr. Máximo Donoso Sánchez. Salió victorioso el equipo de la Luis Lloréns Torres con puntuación de 60 puntos y la escuela Dr. Máximo Donoso Sánchez anotó 46 puntos. Ambos equipos pasan  a representar a Juana Díaz en la Liga Atlética Deportiva.

El martes 4 de febrero se llevó a cabo la eliminatoria de Escuelas Intermedias en la rama masculina.

Durante la mañana del 5 de febrero de 2014 la Sra. Iris Medina (Especialista de Historia) asistida por el Sr. Carlos Maldonado (Especialista Tecnología) ofrecieron "coaching" a estudiantes(10-1) de la Profesora Ada Sánchez. Los estudiantes utilizaron las iPad con la aplicación en linea de Weebly para la creación de sus portafolios electrónicos. 

Embelleciendo nuestra escuela La Max

Los estudiantes de la escuela Dr. Máximo Donoso Sánchez continuan su labor comunitaria. Su interés en que su escuela siga transformandose es inevitable. Continuan su gran labor enbelleciendo su escuela tomando participación en el proyecto de ornamentación y conservación de los alrededores y el patio interior de su escuela. Gracias a todas las personas que pusieron su granito de arena para que esta iniciativa continua su ruta transformadora.

English Week Award Ceremony

During the week of January 27-31, 2014 we held the school English Week. We had a fun week filled with competitions integrating technology in English. Our competitions for Middle School included:

Picture Bee - Integrating the iPads to the competition students used an app called What Pic? to identify the hidden picture.

Vocabulary Contest - Integrating iPads to the competition the students used and app called Wordmania to identify the common theme in four pictures.

Poetry Recital - Students in 7th - 9th grade chose a poem given by the Department of Education and they had to recite it in front of a panel of judges.

Poetry writing & Recital - Students in 10th - 11th grade viewed a PowerPoint presentation based on the English Week theme, then they had 60min. to write a poem and then recite it in front of a panel of judges.

Video Editing Contest - In this competition students had 90min. to create a video using Movie Maker. They were provided with 22 songs and over 100 pictures.

Oral Fluency - Students in this competition were assigned stories to read in front of a panel of judges. They had to read outloud with the least possible mistakes. 

Spelling Bee- This is one of the traditional competitions that students are used to. Each student is given a word that they have to spell.

After a week of competitions we couldn't finish the week without an award ceremony!!!

Editorials - Eleventh Grade

According to the 11th grade Curriculum Map, on chapter 11.3 “As I See It- Persuasion” the students should be able to express thoughts and opinions to discuss current events. To achieve this performance task, the students were organized into small teams to write an editorial to send to the newspaper.  In this case the Editorials would be published on the school blog La Max Informa
Eleventh grade students worked on current school issues and wrote an editorial as part of Ms. Laura Montes Reynés' English class.
